Come learn the art of fly tying - one of civilization's oldest art forms!
MIDDLETOWN - Beat those winter blues by enrolling your children (and yourself!) in Orange County 4-H's Fly Tying program. This is an excellent opportunity to learn the basic skills needed to tie flies you can use next spring when fishing season opens. The five-week program begins on Thursday, January 9, 2020, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. located at Cornell Cooperative Extension Orange County, 18 Seward Avenue, Suite 300, Middletown. This program is open to youth, ages 10-17 and adults.

Fly Tying is the art of tying string, yarn, thread, feathers and other materials to a fish hook in such a manner as to create a lure that resembles various insects that fish are attracted to. “It's a fun and challenging activity for all ages,” commented DeAnna Sardella, 4-H Resource Educator. “The instructors come from a variety of sportsmen club backgrounds and are knowledgeable and eager to share their skills.
They will work with beginners, and also more advanced tiers. If you have your own equipment, bring it along. Otherwise we will provide the necessary tools. This is a great winter project for the whole family.”
The fee for the course is $20 per 4-H member or $35 for non 4-H members or adults. You can register at www.cceorangecounty.org. Class size is limited, so be sure to reserve your place early!
