Learn textile art in Hurleyville

HURLEYVILLE — Fiber on Main and the Hurleyville Maker's Lab will present two unique workshop opportunities on Saturday, April 29, to learn new textile art techniques.
Textile artist Alison Charli Smith will lead a Bundle Dye Workshop from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and a Sashiko Stitching and Visible Mending Workshop from 2 to 4:30 p.
m., both at the Fiber on Main Studio at 227 Main St. in Hurleyville.
In bundle dyeing, workshop participants will learn how to bundle dye with natural and everyday products like onion and avocado skins. Everyone will create a bundle dyed scarf and a collection of naturally dyed swatches, and acquire the skills necessary to bundle dye at home.
In the second workshop, Smith will teach the traditional Japanese method of sashiko stitching and visible mending. Participants are asked to bring an old item of clothing or home textile, and they will learn traditional patterns and ways to both mend an item and give it new decorative life.
The Bundle Dyeing Workshop fee is $60. Sashiko Stitching and Visible Mending is $55. Visit to learn more and to register.
Smith is the proprietor of Hudson Valley textile studio ”Salt and Still.”

1) The bundle dyeing workshop teaches participants to color items using everyday things like onion skins and avocados.
