The Sullivan County Community Chorus presents their 2019 Winter program, a concert entirely in English, “A Colonial Christmas!”
LIBERTY - After making their Carnegie Hall debut this past spring, the Sullivan County Community Chorus is preparing to step back in time in an historical American adventure for their 2019 Winter program, a concert entirely in English, “A Colonial Christmas!” The following is paraphrased from a real NYC newspaper advertisement in 1770:
You are invited to hear a concert given by a certain William Tuckey, a former employee of Trinity Church, as a benefit for himself on the 9th of January. The concert will be held at “Mr. Burns Rooms,” also known as “Burns Coffee-house,” a tavern at 9 Broadway.
This charming musical celebration will include a variety of early American Christmas pieces, as well as the first part of George Handel's Messiah. The performance featuring the full mixed chorus, Chamber Choir, solo performers, and orchestra, will take place on Sunday, December 15 at 2:30 p.m.
(Snow date December 22) at a venue yet to be announced.
The Sullivan County Community Choir draws singers of all ages from all over Sullivan and surrounding counties. All are welcome and encouraged to try us out with our “Three for Free” program for new members. Dues will be waived for the first three rehearsals (September 5, 12, and 19) with no obligation to join.
Rehearsals are held Thursday evenings from 6:30-8:30 p.m. beginning on September 5, in the Chorus Room of Liberty Middle School, located at 145 Buckley Street, Liberty. Requirements for membership are simply the ability to match pitch, commitment to the rehearsal schedule, and readiness to have a joy-filled singing experience! The ability to read music is not required; learning tracks and vocal support are provided.
Information about the choir, including membership and rehearsal schedule can be found at www. or by contacting Choir Director, Kevin Giroux, at 845-594-6786.
