Introduction to Abhidhamma for Artists

NARROWSBURG — A talk by Karen Morris, “Introduction to Abhidhamma for Artists,” will be held on Friday, October 6, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Two Rivers Zen Community, 76 Main Street. Q&A and light refreshments will follow the talk.
The Abhidhamma discourse on the nature of perception and reality is one of the earliest known psychological systems. Framed in the third century BCE by Buddhist monks in India, it verifies many later discoveries about the fundamental, unseen nature of reality, such as the discovery of particle waves and the atom.
As such, it has much to offer artists concerning the dynamics of creativity as waves or blocks, which are scripted into categories and personal narratives often described as “scarcity of ideas,” “anxiety of influence,” imitation, fear of failure, economic distress, fear of the art marketplace, and so on. This talk will introduce the basic skill set of the Abhidhamma as a way of identifying habitual internal scripts that circumscribe and restrict creativity, while learning new skills to open the doors of boundless perception.
Space is limited. Please RSVP to if you plan to attend.
