Independence Day Celebration

Crystal Band
HONESDALE - There is nothing like a small town's celebration of the birth of our nation. Honesdale is proud to bring music, fun, food and fireworks to Central Park on Sunday, July 2nd beginning at 6:30. (Note the later starting time this year). The Wayne County Creative Arts Council's annual festivities kick off with Doug Smith's Dixieland - All - Stars playing a combination of patriotic, Dixieland jazz and just all time favorites. They have been playing in Central Park for 18 years and they always draw a big crowd. Doug commented that performing in Honesdale brings back many fond memories and gives him a chance to renew friendships in his native Newfoundland.

The Crystal Band from Scranton will mark the 25th year of performing for the holiday in Honesdale. They began with 17 young men in 1897. The band has performed in many local venues as well as internationally in Romania . Under the direction of Doreen Igantovich, their repertoire includes pops, Broadway, light classical, patriotic, and traditional band music. They will begin at 8pm and play till the fireworks erupt from Irving Cliff at approximately 9:30. The fireworks are sponsored by the Greater Honesdale Partnership.
The children won't be left out either. There will be bounce houses provided by Rent-E-Quip. A face painter and novelty vendors will also be there for some fun.
With food vendors serving pizza, steak and sausage sandwiches, ice cream, deep fried Oreos and funnel cakes everyone will find something to satisfy their taste buds.
The rain date is Monday July 3rd.
