Board members of the Literacy Volunteers of Sullivan County, Vivian Multari-Ginsberg and Gay Donofrio, had a booth with information about their organization and sold mystery bags filled with different kinds of books.
BETHEL - Many local community groups gathered at the Duggan Community Center on Saturday, having to move inside due to the rain. The annual Bethel Community Day brings people out to see what's going on in their town.
Some of the groups that had information tables were the Literacy Volunteers of Sullivan County, the Bethel Green Committee, the Bethel Dog Park, Bethel Parks and Recreation, the Bethel Council of the Arts, among others.
Town Supervisor Dan Sturm said, “It's nice to see them all under one roof.”
This was the 13th year for the Bethel Community Day. Cathy McFadden, the Director of Parks and Recreation, who used to be a teacher at the Duggan School, started it.
It began as Community Pride Day, and she carried on the tradition after the school closed in 2011.
The touch-a-truck, kickball game and reptile show had to be cancelled because of the rain. But indoors, kid-friendly events continued, such as rock painting and tie-dye, in preparation for the 50th anniversary of Woodstock.
