D&U Hosts Steam Locomotive Weekend Sept. 29-30

ARKVILLE - The Delaware & Ulster Railroad takes a step back in time when it hosts a Steam Locomotive Weekend on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 29-30.
In a nod to days gone by, the scenic ride's passenger cars will be powered along the D&U tracks by an authentic steam locomotive. The weekend provides a unique trip back into the early days of railroading with chugging steam engines were sights.
On that weekend, the Steam Weekend gets rolling with a Photo Special leaving the station each day at 9:30 a.m.
This steam excursion will run to the east of Arkville and will offer some great photo opportunities of a unique section of the line. The other Saturday and Sunday steam trains will leave Arkville at 10:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. for a round-trip to Halcottsville.
The Steam Locomotive Weekend provides a fantastic chance to relive the days of steam railroading on the Delaware & Ulster Railroad and hear the sounds of the mighty whistle echo through the Catskill Mountains and enjoy watching the plumes of steam and smoke trail wafting behind the train as it winds through the East Branch of the Delaware River Valley at a leisurely pace. Adding to the drama of the scenery will be the unparalleled Catskill Mountain foliage that should be nearing its peak that weekend.
The D&U will also be offering its regular train rides to Arkville to Roxbury on both of these days at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. with its streamliner equipment.
The Delaware & Ulster Railroad tourist train ride is located at 43510 State Highway 28, Arkville. For more information, please call (800) 225-4132, contact the stationmaster at (845) 586-2929, visit: or e-mail:
The Catskill Revitalization Committee, operator of the D&U, also oversees the Catskill Scenic Trail, a 26-mile hiking/biking trail running from Roxbury to Bloomville on the former rail bed. Visit for a map and additional information.
