FALLSBURG - Everyone knows that Santa Claus comes but once a year, and this year he came a little bit earlier than usual to the Town of Fallsburg. The huge float containing The Santa Express turned the corner at Route 42 and heading up to the Town Square exactly at 5 PM. With headlights beaming, horn blowing, holiday music blaring, the giant “sleigh” stopped in front of the Court House to the shouts of delight of the couple hundred children, parents and a few barking dogs.
Thanks to Mrs. Valerie Sitz for organizing this annual event with the full support of the Town of Fallsburg, The Fire, Police and Parks Departments, the School District, PartyMaster's Perry Gips, and many wonderful volunteers who served donated hot chocolate from the SYDA Foundation, cookies provided by parents, and gloves donated by Fidelis Care.
Fallsburg's Pop Warner Cheerleaders, dressed as reindeer and coached by Mrs.
Andrea Hook and Ms. Kierra Miller-Ector, warmed up the crowd. Unfortunately the early arrival of the Express prevented Superintendent of Schools Dr. Ivan Katz from the traditional reading of “The Night Before Christmas.”
The main event of the evening was Santa, Mrs. Claus, the elves, the gingerbread people, the reindeer and princesses that streamed down from the sleigh into the waiting arms and cheers of the children, young and old alike. When Buddy the Elf forgot to bring the Christmas Tree, Santa directed his staff to decorate Buddy with dozens of feet of bright lights and ornaments.
After an hour of revelry, Santa and Mrs. Claus boarded the sleigh, shouting Merry Xmas and waving as the Express drove off into the night leaving a very happy group of Fallsburg residents in its wake.
