MONTICELLO — Monticello Central School District Superintendent Tammy Mangus submitted her resignation to the Board of Education Friday morning. She plans to step down effective August 31.

“The Board of Education wants to publicly thank Superintendent Mangus for her hard work and dedication to the District's students, staff and families throughout her career at Monticello. Superintendent Mangus' enthusiasm and passion for Monticello will be missed, and the Board wishes her the best in all her future endeavors,” read an official statement from the district on Friday.

The statement did not say why Mangus was leaving her post and the district's public information officer, Courtney Bonfante, declined to comment any further.

“It has been a true honor to serve the students, staff and families of the Monticello Central School District,” Mangus said. “Looking back on these seven fruitful years, I see the great things that can come from goal-setting, awareness, collaboration, communication, integrity, responsibility and tenacity. Through these things, the community has shown everyone what is made of through increased graduation and proficiency rates, continuously expanded programming and innovative opportunities.”

The same day, the Board of Education appointed Dr. William Silver as Acting Superintendent of Schools, effective August 17 through 31. Beginning on the first of September, Dr. Silver's title will change to Interim Superintendent of Schools up through and including February 28, 2020. He will receive a per diem amount of $800 per day actually worked, with no additional compensation or benefits.

“We are honored to welcome Dr. Silver to Monticello,” Board of Education President Lori Orestano-James said. “We are confident that his background, particularly his extensive experience in managing capital improvement projects, will help guide our district towards its goals. The Board remains committed to its goals of transparency and open communication during this time of transition and we will keep our community updated and informed as Dr. Silver acclimates to his new role”
