Town of Rockland honors Ira Paul Tuggle

LIVINGSTON MANOR - Town of Rockland Highway worker, Ira Paul Tuggle, has no plans to retire anytime soon, but he is celebrating a milestone.

This month marked 50 years that Tuggle has been working for the Town of Rockland. He's worked under his fair share of Highway Supervisors, has seen the Town of Rockland grow and has rarely ever taken a sick day.

“He shows up everyday, and he's always willing to help out,” said Town of Rockland Supervisor Robert Eggleton at a recent Town Board meeting. “He volunteers rain or shine at a lot of the town events. On dump day, he's there helping people unload their scrap and junk.”

Over a course of several weeks Rockland Board Members discussed that they'd like to celebrate Tuggle in some way, perhaps with a party or some type of recognition.

“I think we ought to present him with a plaque,” said Eggleton. “A plaque that can hang in the Town Barn.”

So on Tuesday, July 10, highway workers, board members, friends and family gathered at the Town Highway Barn at 3 p.m. to present Tuggle with a 50 year plaque, thanking him for his dedication, perseverance, and hard work to the town and community he lives in.

“Mr. Tuggle is well-known and beloved in the community, he is always helping someone somewhere,” said Rockland Deputy Town Clerk Alix Dench-Layton. “He's an individual truly deserving of recognition and appreciation.”
