A three-car pileup yesterday shut down a portion of Route 42 between Kiamesha Lake and South Fallsburg for about an hour. Town of Fallsburg Police report that an Acura sedan had stopped in the southbound lane to make a left turn around 3:22 p.m. when it was rear-ended by a Mercedes S550. The Acura was pushed into the path of a northbound Toyota van near Gibber Road, and eight people - all adults - ended up injured. Two sustained possible broken bones and were airlifted to Westchester Medical Center. The others were taken by Hatzolah and MobileMedic ambulances to Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris with more minor wounds. In addition to Fallsburg Police, responders included the Fallsburg Fire Department and the Sullivan County Sheriff's Office. All three cars had to be towed from the scene, but no charges or tickets have been issued, pending further investigation.
