George Nikolados and crew at the Miss Monticello Diner served up good food for guests and $300 for Cornell Cooperative Extension (CCE) on Tuesday, thanks to a clever way of asking people to donate just by eating! As part of the diner's monthly Giving Tuesday charitable efforts, Nikolados partnered with CCE to celebrate National Agriculture Day by serving local eggs, honey, maple syrup, spinach and more on Tuesday. In addition to brochures explaining the value of local agriculture, CCE provided eye-catching placemats for diners to peruse, plus $5 gift certificates to their workshops or newsletter. Miss Monticello, meanwhile, donated 10 percent of every check to CCE, which raised $300. “Cornell does a lot of work people don't know about. This is a way of giving back, of getting the word out there,” said Nikolados. CCE Executive Director Colleen Monaghan gratefully added, “Miss Monticello Diner has been so generous in their partnership to CCE. From sharing facts about our organization's work and the local agricultural industry, to raising $300 on National Ag Day, we are so thankful for the support of the county's small business community and look forward to serving residents alongside them.” More such business partnerships are sought by CCE, and those interested are encouraged to contact Communications Manager Nicole Slevin at 292-6180, ext. 114, or nas96@cornell.edu.
