SULLIVAN COUNTY — The annual Sullivan County Litter Pluck is spanning a week this year - from May 6 through May 14.

Members of the Sullivan County Legislature are encouraging all school and community groups, as well as private citizens to participate.

On Thursday, April 20, the full legislature voted to fund the bags and the associated waste disposal fees for this annual event, which is being coordinated through the County's Parks, Recreation and Beautification Department and the Department of Public Works Department.

Catherine Owens, the Agriculture & Sustainability Committee Chair is asking County residents to check with their municipalities since there are several local Litter Pluck events as well.

Litter bags are available any time on or after April 28 at town or village halls and local transfer stations.

No coupons will be necessary for disposal and roadside refuse will be accepted free-of-charge at all County Transfer Stations during the event dates. However, all Litter Pluck refuse must be placed in clear bags and participants will be asked to register at the Transfer Station at the time of disposal.

For more information about Litter Pluck, call Sullivan County Parks, Recreation, and Beautification Director Brian Scardefield at 845-807-0287.
