SULLIVAN COUNTY — On Thursday September 20, at approximately 4:30 p.m, the Sullivan County Sheriff's Office received a report of damage to the museum located in Swan Lake Park, in the Town of Liberty. Old photographs had been torn off of the walls, a billboard had been knocked over, and a visitors log had been scribbled in. Additionally, a fire had been started that caused damage to a gazebo. An investigation by members of the Sheriff's Youth Division led to the arrest of an 8-year-old on Wednesday, October 10. The suspect admitted to causing the damage to the museum and told deputies that when the first fire went out, he returned to the location and started a second fire. The youth was arrested and charged with two counts each of Arson 5th degree and Criminal Mischief 4th degree, both Misdemeanors. He was released to the custody of a parent and ordered to appear in Family Court on Tuesday October 16, 2018 at 10:45 AM.

Deputies were assisted by the Village of Liberty Police Department.
