Youth commission has a bird themed day in Narrowsburg

Posted

The Tusten Town Hall was packed for a free lunch and children's bird feeder building workshop on Sunday sponsored by the Tusten Youth Commission. Close to 50 young builders stayed after, joined by their families and additional arrivals for a birds of prey show.

Bill Streeter of The Delaware Valley Raptor Center in Milford, PA brought along six sanctuary residents for an opportunity to see various species of raptors in person. He discussed the dangers of pesticides and other threats to the birds as well as the regulations put in place to protect them since the decline of many species in the twentieth century.

The DVRC is a non-profit organization dedicated to educating the public about raptors and the conservation efforts to save them. Beginning January of this year, the center is no longer able to take in new birds, though they can connect those looking for assistance to other rehabilitators. The DVRC still has about two dozen resident birds in their care. Information about donations, memberships and the DVRC adoption program can be found at www.dvrconline.org.

Donations made at the event benefitted The Tusten Youth Commission, a non-profit providing the local youth with enriching and educational programs.
