ROSCOE — Wednesday was a difficult day for many in the Roscoe community.

Local resident and wearer of multiple “hats,” Elaine Fettig passed away at home surrounded by her family.

“Elaine was a crusader for our community,” stated a press release from the Roscoe Chamber of Commerce as they remembered their friend. “She worked so hard for Roscoe ... There is now a void in our community which is still so hard to grasp and fill.”

Fettig was the President of the Roscoe Chamber of Commerce, a member of Sullivan Renaissance, co-Chair at the Sullivan County Visitors Association, an ambassador for St. Jude Research Hospital for Children, and one of the leaders and founders of the Roscoe Beer Co.

“Elaine was an inspiring leader with an aptitude for both business and compassion,” the Roscoe Beer team said. “She was a cornerstone in the foundation of the Roscoe Beer company and will be greatly missed ...”

Fettig also worked tirelessly to ensure that Roscoe became historically known as the Ultimate Fishing Town USA in 2011.

“Elaine was the consummate professional and a privilege to have worked with. She was the strong leader that the Roscoe Chamber needed as we positioned ourselves for growth in the tourism resurgence,” said friend and colleague Phil Vallone. “Donna, I and the entire business community will miss her. We are sure her husband Doug realizes that he has a strong support team in our community as he deals with her untimely passing.”

"There are no words to adequately express the heartfelt sorrow of losing a cherished friend and colleague,” said President of the Sullivan County Visitors Association, Roberta Byron-Lockwood. “Elaine generously shared of her time and business expertise to the community of Roscoe and the entire Sullivan Catskills. ... Our prayers are with the Fettig family through this sad journey of Elaine's untimely loss.”

A small private Celebration of Life will be planned for this summer when her family and grandchildren are visiting Roscoe.

In lieu of cards or flowers, donations are asked to be made in Elaine's name to St. Jude's Research Hospital.
