Rockland gets $35,000 Smart Growth Grant

TOWN OF ROCKLAND — The Town of Rockland received $35,000 as part of Governor Cuomo's Smart Growth Grants program to support cultural amenities, recreation and economic growth consistent with environmental protection in New York's Catskill Park.

The grant was part of a total of more than $1.35 million in Smart Growth grants awarded to six communities and organizations in the Mid-Hudson Valley.

Town of Rockland Supervisor Rob Eggleton said the grant will be applied to the Townwide Comprehensive Plan. “We've already started reviewing our Master Comprehensive Plan,” said Eggleton. “ ... we previously redid some of the zoning last year, updating it to match the wording in our comp plan. Going forward that helps you apply for more funding from the state. We missed out on a lot of these grants previously because we were just on the edge of the NYC Watershed area, where most of those grants were applied.”

Eggleton reports that he has “15 people in the community working on the updates to the Comp Plan. The committee is open to the general public, so if anyone wants to get involved, visit our website (www.townofrocklandny.com) for time and date.”
