HORTONVILLE - A new highway barn and salt shed inched a step closer Wednesday night when the Delaware town board unanimously approved a Bond Resolution not to exceed $5 million to handle the costs of site work, driveway, stormwater infrastructure, salt shed and new highway facility.

The new facility will be located four miles east of Hortonville on Route 17B, replacing the current facility located in Hortonville, which is nearly 65 years old.

Bids were let Tuesday for the ‘Salt Shed Project' and a pre-bid meeting will be held on Wednesday, May 22 at 10 a.m. at the Town Hall.

Bids are due by June 6 on Phase 1 of the project, which includes removal of 13,000 cubic yards of soil, rough grade, site work, stormwater collection and treatment system and construction of the 3,000-square-foot salt storage building on a new reinforced concrete foundation and slab.

The town has already secured two grants totalling $498,000 for this project.

During Wednesday's special meeting the town board also appointed Scott Stevenson to the Planning Board to fill the vacancy by the departure of Michael Browne.

The appointment will take effect on June 1.
