Murph's Toy Drive gives over 1,000 toys to children this Christmas

CALLICOON - For the sixth annual year Josh Murphy held Murph's Toy Drive at the Villa Roma Resort in Callicoon. The event was hosted by Paul Ciliberto of Bold Gold Media, in conjunction with the Town of Wallkill Boys and Girls Club.

Before the big event, toy drop-off boxes were located at Wayne Bank offices, facilitated by Erin Mason the Monticello Branch Community Office Manager. Over 1,000 toys were donated and will be distributed to children through the Boys and Girls Club Giving Tree program, which distributes to 400-plus children in need across Northern Orange and Sullivan Counties this holiday season.

Murphy, a native of Callicoon who now works in real estate, said the toy drive gets bigger and bigger every single year. “I made this party that everyone goes to and has a great time, but it's for an unbelievable cause,” Murphy said. “So it's a win-win situation.”

For the past three years, the event has been held at the Villa Roma. Murphy wanted to thank everyone at the Villa Roma, including Scott Bell and Craig Pisante. He also thanks Kevin Cappiello, the owner of Upstate Update. And over 30 local businesses donated to the raffle drawing.

When he started it six years ago, Murphy hoped to be able to help those in need. “I wanted to make sure I could help kids have a better Christmas,” Murphy said. “I needed to do something; so I created this platform that was able to not only help kids, but able to have a good time for the people who come and attend.”

The event was attended by over 200 people who enjoyed dinner, raffle prizes and live music by two local bands, Brotality and Breach the Barrier. The bands not only donated their time, but also at the end of the night donated $900 to the Giving Tree.

This year Bold Gold Media partnered with Murphy and he is thankful for their help. “It's a blessing to have them involved with it,” Murphy said. “I'm humbled by the amount of local support by the people of Sullivan County that either reached out, donated, people who couldn't come sent money to buy toys, a lot of people gave checks or dropped off toys at Wayne Bank.”

Ciliberto, who hosted the event, said Bold Gold Media Group has always supported the Boys and Girls Club. “I was honored to be host for this amazing event,” Ciliberto said. “The night was an example of what the holiday season is all about. Amazing people getting together to have a good time and help those in need.”
