MONTICELLO — A Monticello couple that was arrested in New York City in February 2018 for duct taping their 19-year-old daughter pleaded not guilty in a Manhattan Supreme Court on January 9, 2019.

The couple, Menachem (40) and Rachel Cohen (38), of Monticello, were accused of using duct tape around the wrists, ankles, and mouth of their daughter.

According to media reports, the couple pleaded not guilty to second-degree assault, coercion, unlawful imprisonment and other charges while facing Judge James Burke.

When the parents were arrested in February 2018, they allegedly told EMS that their daughter had a mental disorder and needed treatment, according to reports.

The couple told officers that they were taking their daughter to a friend for treatment.

When the couple was arrested, EMS transported the 19-year-old to Bellevue Hospital's psychiatric ward.

The Cohens will need to return to Manhattan Supreme Court on March 2, 2019.
