Rock Hill Diner closes for good

ROCK HILL — During the late hours of New Year's Day, a fire began at the Rock Hill Diner, located along Exit 109 on Route 17. After that devastating fire in January that tore through the kitchen, owners of the Rock Hill Diner, Steve and Joanne Weiss, had plans to rebuild and reopen the local eatery.

For months the establishment sat vacant and unused until the owners heard back from their insurance company. Unfortunately, things didn't go the way the owners wanted and the property was recently put up for sale.

According to owner Steve Weiss, the insurance money will be delayed and at the end, won't be enough for them to rebuild the diner to its previous glory.

News spread fast on social media after Joanne Weiss posted this statement on the Rock Hill Diner Facebook page: “Thanks for all the support and encouragement from the comments on our posts. We had the best customers and staff during our 28 years in business! We will miss everyone.”

Soon after the post, well wishes and thank you's poured in from across the county and even from across the country. Many reminisced on the memories they had at the diner.

The family will still remain in the food business with catering by partnering with Joe Taylor.
