MONTICELLO — The fog hung heavy in the air on Sunday morning, preventing Mike Croissant taking off.

His mission was clear - to install six HVAC units on the roof of the Catskill Resorts World Casino being constructed in Monticello.

Croissant and copilot Chris McNiel took off out of Swinging Bridge Marina in Monticello, which Croissant owns and operates.

The helicopter was provided courtesy of Gotham Helicopters LLC., based out of Linden, NJ. It was flown up to Swinging Bridge Marina several days before the job to avoid unnecessary delays due to weather.

While weather is always a factor for pilots, the summer months can make morning conditions unpredictable. “Because of the temperature changes around this time of year, there's usually fog in the morning,” said Croissant, “particularly in valleys in between the hills, but it clears up as the sun rises and temperatures increase.”

The ventilation parts being airlifted weighed between 500 and 1500 pounds.

With a ROLLS-ROYCE 250-C47B engine providing 650 horsepower, the helicopter has a tow capacity of 1,800 pounds.

Croissant said he'll be doing more work with Resorts World Catskills in the coming weeks.

The grand opening of the resort is less than one year away.
