SCVA moving to Liberty Mall

LIBERTY -- The Sullivan Catskills Visitors Association (SCVA) will soon have a new home. They are relocating to the Liberty Mall on 15 Sullivan Avenue in the Village of Liberty, right off Exit 100 on Route 17 and NYS Route 52.

“We have outgrown our current quarters and needed to find office space that would warmly welcome and accommodate visitors and investors, as 2020 will see additional growth in our booming local tourism industry,” said Roberta Byron-Lockwood, SCVA President & CEO.

Tourism in the Sullivan Catskills generated $515 million in traveler spending in 2018 -- a 14.5 percent increase from the year before -- as well as over $35 million in sales tax.

“We believe that the new space will be an effective and accessible way to advance the mission of the Sullivan Catskills, inspire revitalization, while maintaining our robust marketing and promotion efforts,” Byron-Lockwood added.

The SCVA reached an agreement with S&S Waverly LLC and will have a three-year lease at the new location, where they are having architectural design work done. While they don't yet have an exact move-in date, the SCVA anticipates being in the new space in time for the busy season.

The SCVA team wants to encourage the redevelopment of the Liberty Mall and believes that by being there, they can help with its progress. The location will also host the relocated administrative offices of Sullivan County BOCES.

“I think it's a great, adaptive use of the Liberty Mall,” Byron-Lockwood said, adding that the location, “is easy on and off Route 17 on a stretch where there's no information for about 400 miles. We're very excited and thrilled about it [the move].”
