County says goodbye to fire services ‘pioneer'

Posted

Longtime Sullivan County Fire Coordinator and Woodridge resident Harold Kronenberg - affectionately known by his colleagues and friends as “Iggy” - was somberly laid to rest Wednesday in a distinguished firematics service.

Held inside his beloved Woodridge Firehouse, the funeral featured a who's who of Sullivan County mourners. Many recalled his 26 years as Coordinator, his co-creation of the Sullivan County Arson Task Force, and his dedicated service to the Woodridge Fire Department.

“I don't think there's a fireman, trooper or policeman in this area who did not know Harold Kronenberg,” said longtime friend Darryl Kaplan, whose family co-owned and operated the Sullivan County Steam Laundry with Kronenberg's family.

Many others fondly remembered Iggy's high-speed driving habits, his enjoyment of practical jokes, and his oft-employed question: “So what's doin'?” And so his brother firefighters, led by Woodridge FD Chaplain Isaac Kantrowitz, bid him farewell Wednesday, both inside the firehouse and then via procession down Green Avenue to his final resting place at Congregation Ohave Shalom Cemetery in Glen Wild.
