LIBERTY — A familiar landmark for anyone traveling on Route 52 through the Town of Liberty was demolished last week. The 52 Pick-Up gas station and convenience store was torn down and its fuel tanks were removed from the ground

Jatin Patel, owner of 52 Pick-Up had appeared before the Town of Liberty Planning Board in early March. He said he intended to demolish the old structure and replace it with a 60' by 60' building along with a 36' by 80' canopy covering all new gas pumps and tanks.

Patel has said they would also be making improvements to the parking lot, adding additional landscaping and installing a new picnic area.

“This project has been on the ‘drawing board' for a long time, and we are glad to see Mr. Patel and his group moving forward with the construction and with local contractors,” said Town of Liberty Supervisor Brian Rourke. “I'm encouraged by this and other investments that are being made in the Town of Liberty, including several restaurant openings and other commercial projects in the works. We are also seeing a significant uptick in residential real estate transactions and sale prices.”

Liberty residents may well remember Napoli's Pizzeria which had occupied the attached building at 52 PickUp for many years before closing for good in 2017.

As of Thursday morning, it appeared that new fuel tanks had arrived at the site.
