LIBERTY — Liberty Middle School received what officials are calling a “non-credible” bomb threat on Friday afternoon.

Both the middle and high schools, as well as the elementary school on Main Street were on lockout for more than two hours while authorities assessed the situation.

A 13-year-old student was ultimately identified and arrested as the person who made the call. The student was charged as a juvenile with one felony count of making a terroristic threat, according to Scott Kinne, Chief of the Liberty Police Department.

All three schools were able to dismiss on schedule, while authorities from the Liberty Police Department secured the campus grounds and surrounding streets with the assistance of officers from the New York State Police and the Sullivan County Sheriff's Department.

A press release issued by Chief Kinne included the following statement: “On April 21st 2016 at approximately 1:00pm the Liberty Police Department was notified that the Liberty Middle School received a bomb threat over the phone. The Liberty Police immediately began an Investigation with the assistance of the New York State Police, Sullivan County Sheriff's Office and the FBI. The Liberty Schools were placed in a lockout, with law enforcement securing the School campus and surrounding streets. Within two hours the source of the threat was identified and apprehended. ...”
