SULLIVAN COUNTY — It took 10 days but now there is finality in two local Election Day results that were up in the air until absentee ballots were counted.

In the Town of Thompson, newcomer Melinda Meddaugh, a Democrat, defeated Republican Jay Rubin in a three-way race for two council member seats. Meddaugh replaces Richard Sush, who retired. Democrat John Pavese won re-election.

In the Town of Tusten, Democrat Jill Padua (267 votes) - also a political newcomer -- defeated Republican Ned Lang (234) for one of the two seats on the ballot. Jane Luchsinger, the Deputy Town Supervisor and a Democrat, won re-election to the Board with 307 votes.
