ELDRED — The senior center in the Town of Highland, which opened its doors in 1994, has been renamed Shirley Reuter Senior and Community Center. Reuter was one of the driving forces behind the construction of the senior center, which is also home to the VFW Post #6427 of Sullivan County.

Current members and past elected officers along with Reuter's children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were on hand to congratulate her on the honor of having the center named after her. New York Assemblywoman Aileen Gunther sent a letter recognizing Reuter, which was presented to her at the event.

“I feel so honored to have the center renamed and if it wasn't for Peter Carmeci, I'm not sure this would happen,” she said.
