Arrested for stealing bank bag

Posted

A Monticello woman has been arrested after she found a bank bag type pouch in a shopping cart at Walmart in Monticello and kept it. On April 9, a local group home for handicapped persons went to Walmart to purchase groceries. When they loaded their vehicle to leave at about noon, they forgot a blue pouch in a shopping cart. The bag contained a credit card, some coupons and a couple of dollar bills.

Michelle Dye, 64, of Monticello spotted the bag and removed it from the shopping cart. The group home reported the bag missing to the Sheriff's Patrol about an hour later. Through video surveillance and interviews deputies were able to track down Michelle Dye and arrest her on Monday May 8. The credit card, which was not recovered, had not been used because it required a PIN number. Dye was charged with Grand Larceny 4th Degree, a Felony. She was released on an appearance ticket and appeared for arraignment in the Town of Thompson Court on Wednesday May 10. The matter remains pending.
