Three men arrested for several burglaries

LIBERTY — Reports of a string of burglaries occurring in several towns around the county spurred a collaborative effort by the Sullivan County Sheriff's Office, New York State Police (NYSP), Town of Fallsburg Police and the Sullivan County District Attorney's Office to stop the crimes and find the culprits behind them.

After a nearly three-week-long investigation, three Sullivan County men were arrested on charges of burglary, possession of stolen property and drug possession.

Police arrested Albert Quick, 29, of Woodbourne, along with Greig Quick, 31, also of Woodbourne and Joseph Brown, 33, of Montgomery.

“I believe two were seen fleeing from the scene of a burglary,” said Captain Brian Shortall of the NYSP, “and that's what led to the arrests and additional search warrants.”

Four search warrants were executed that resulted in the recovery of several hundred pieces of jewelry, 150 bags of heroin and a stolen defaced semi-automatic pistol.

“The State Police are aware of 11 burglaries, the Fallsburg PD seven [burlaries] and the Sheriff's Department one attempted burglary,” said Shortall, “and that's just what they know of. There very well could be more.”

Greig Quick was charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, Albert Quick was charged with several counts of burglary in the second degree, attempted burglary in the second degree, and criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree. Joseph Brown was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree as well as tampering with physical evidence.

All three individuals were arraigned in the Town of Liberty Court and then remanded to the Sullivan County Jail.

“Out of all the jewelry that was found, only some of it can be connected with the burglaries. Much of it they have no idea where it came from,” added Shortall, “so people that may have had a break-in or a burglary and have property missing should reach out to the Sheriff's Department to set up an interview.”
