2022 JAKES event a hit

ROSCOE – Despite new rules and regulations, the Sullivan County Long Beards (SCLB) continue to find ways to make the annual JAKES event fun for everyone in attendance.

From a cotton candy machine and other snacks, to an archery range, birds of prey, and other exhibitors, there is always educational opportunities for the kids, and the adults, that attend the annual event held at the Fireman’s Field in Roscoe.

One of the major changes this year, the switch from .22 rifles to air rifles and BB guns, did not hamper the fun and the excitment of the attendees.

As always, after signing in, the youths stopped for a safety briefing to ensure that the day would be full of safe fun.

One of the main attractions each year is the birdhouse building station, and it was packed throughout the day. Some of the kids that return year after year do so just for the opportunity to build and bring home a new birdhouse.

The volunteer event does a great job of offering learning opportunities and engaging fun ways to get kids interested in the outdoors.
