8-man championship matchup stage set

SPACKENKILL – Tri-Valley is headed to Spackenkill to take on the Spartans for the 8-man division title on Friday morning. The two schools have bested their first two rounds of playoff opponents, with each earning an upset victory in the semifinals to make it to the championship.

Tri-Valley will have their work cut out for them this weekend, taking on the defending champs on their home turf is no easy task. The Bears fared well against the undefeated Pawling Tigers for the 32-26 victory, but they dug deep into their bag of tricks to do so.

Deploying, and succeeding with, a passing game was something that has not been intrinsic to Tri-Valley’s offense thus far, and now that they have gotten past Pawling, Spackenkill will have prepared for it.

Spackenkill was able to go on the road to take down Sullivan West 26-12 in the semifinals and will be headed to their home stadium to host their second championship in a row.

The Spartans bested the Bears earlier in the season, with Spackenkill defeating Tri-Valley in a close contest. The 24-22 loss was the Bears’ first loss of the season and would be their only until they ran into Sullivan West in the regular season finale.

Losing once in Spackenkill already, the Bears will have a tough test ahead of them if they would like to go home Friday morning with a trophy to display, but the team has already accomplished the improbable a few times this year, from a 2-6 team last season to taking down an undefeated Pawling team for a trip to the championship.
