A ‘must try’ this Labor Day- Mom’s Baked Beans

Posted

There is  nothing I personally like more than a family BBQ on my parent’s deck, having an ice cold drink and some of my dad’s famous ribs or Teriyaki glazed steak.

My dad or uncles man the grill, my aunts bring the appetizers, and if we are lucky enough, Aunt Laurie brings dessert. I am very lucky (and cursed) that all my aunts are great cooks. And even being excellent cooks, they always ask for my mom to bring her baked beans.

For these crockpot baked beans you will need:

1 can of butter beans drained

1 can kidney beans drained

1 can Campbell’s pork and beans (large)

1/2 lb bacon fried and crumbled

1 large onion chopped

1 cup ketchup

1/2 cup brown sugar

2 1/2-3 tbsp mustard and

1/4 cup apple cider vinegar for tang

Place all ingredients on low for 4-6 hours!

This dish would be fantastic at a Labor Day BBQ, tailgate, family gathering, or a weeknight side dish. The great part is that not all ingredients are coming out of a can, and you’re really cutting out a lot of sodium by not buying everything premade. Enjoy! XO
