Alan Robert Snedeker, a lifelong resident of Sullivan County, passed away peacefully March 5, 2025, at home. He was 69. He is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Adrienne Snedeker.
The son of Philip and Mildred Snedeker, he was born in Hamilton Avenue Hospital in Monticello, NY, and grew up in Fosterdale, NY.
Alan graduated from Jeffersonville-Youngsville School District in 1973 on the honor roll. He studied Culinary Arts at Sullivan County B.O.C.E.S. and continued studying Culinary Arts at Sullivan County Community College and graduated in 1975.
In his youth, Alan worked at H&R Poultry Farm alongside his brothers and later worked at The Hill’s and Stephensville before becoming a chef at the Antrim Lodge. He later became a chef/supervisor at Job Corps in Callicoon, then moved on to become the chef/dietary manager at Roscoe Rehabilitation & Nursing Center.
Alan was a member of Cub Scout Pack 106, in Jeffersonville, NY with his mom as their Den Mother and the Boy Scouts of America Troop 115, in Fosterdale NY, where his father was one of the leaders. He enjoyed working with his hands and was a skilled handyman. Working on his sudoku/crossword puzzles, taking walks, and keeping the flower beds looking beautiful were some of the things he enjoyed. His love for music was clear to all that knew him, especially music from the ‘70’s. If you gave him a song title, he most likely would know the artist. Alan was a loyal Green Bay Packers fan, staying true to them over the years, even on the years they didn’t do so well. Alan and Adrienne also loved traveling. They visited Germany, Australia, Alaska, among many other US states. They especially loved going camping in the north woods of Maine.
Alan was predeceased by his parents, sister Diane Zajac, and mother-in-law Joanne Morse. Survivors include his wife, Adrienne Snedeker, at home; one daughter, Laura Snedeker of Ocala, FL; 3 brothers, Glen (Mary) Snedeker, of Callicoon, NY; Bruce (Cindy) Snedeker of Kenoza Lake, NY; and Roger (Jennifer) Snedeker of Narrowsburg, NY; one sister, Barbara (Joseph) Schultz of Hortonville, NY; brother-in-law, Dale (Julie) Zajac of Farmington, NY; his aunt, Marie Levine of Signal Mountain, TN; father-in-law Edwin Morse; sister-in-law, Jessica (Dean) McManus; brother-in-law, Edwin Morse II, and many cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, good friends, and his special cat, Alex.
A private graveside service was held on Sunday, March 9, 2025, at the Fosterdale Cemetery with pastor Shannon Bailey officiating. Arrangements were made by Van Inwegen Kenny Inc. Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions can be made in Alan’s name to UMC of Fosterdale Cemetery Inc., c/o, Barbara Schultz, 12 Rock Ave., Callicoon, NY 12723 or Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, PO Box 27106, New York, NY 10087-7106.
