LAKE HUNTINGTON — In their final home game of the 2024 campaign, the Sullivan West Bulldogs faced off against the Fallsburg Comets in a Class B clash. Sullivan West didn’t wait long to pounce, scoring early and often as they cruised to a 28-3 victory in five innings.

Haden Nicosia started the game on the mound for the Bulldogs. Despite hitting a batter in the first inning, he struck out all six of the other batters he faced over the first two innings.

On the other hand, Sullivan West’s offense refused to be held down. In the first inning, thanks to a few RBI singles and an error, the Bulldogs put up five runs to kick off the game.

In the bottom of the second, the Bulldogs added an additional five runs, thanks to a bases-clearing double by Alec Hubert, who went on to record seven RBI in the win.

Senior Caden Allen pitched the third inning, giving up three earned runs with four walks and three strikeouts, as the Comets attempted to climb back into the game, trailing 10-3.

In the home half of the third, the wheels fell off for Fallsburg as 13 Bulldogs would come around to score in the inning. It was errors abound, as the Comets finished with 15 of them by the end of the game.

Of the 23 runs that the Bulldogs scored in the first three innings, only five of them were earned.

Once the damage was done, Austin Nystrom took the mound for the Bulldogs in the top of the fourth. He gave up one hit and struck out two as Sullivan West held onto their 23-3 lead.

The Bulldogs added an additional five (unearned) runs in the bottom of the fourth, to set them up with a 28-3 lead and three outs to go to secure the victory.

Jacob Hubert took the mound in the top of the fifth, working around a walk and striking out three to end the game with a huge win on senior night for the home team.

“We’re a young and inexperienced team with three seniors,” Fallsburg Coach Dylan Gaucher explained. “The core of our team is sophomores, and we’ve been working on trying to clean up the errors.”

The Bulldogs are headed to Sectionals this season after posting a 4-2 record in the division and currently sitting at 9-6 overall with two road regular season games to go.

“We were able to pitch our seniors that wanted to throw, which is always a cool moment,” Sullivan West Coach Ty Ebert said. “We did a good job of putting the ball in play, running the bases and scoring today. We have Monticello and Livingston Manor on the road and we’re hoping to end the regular season strong.”
