Anne Horváth of Monticello, a beloved wife and mother, passed away on October 26, 2022 at her home. She was 79, and only a week shy of her 80th birthday.

The daughter of the late János Fehér and Erzsébet Toth Fehér, she was born November 2, 1942 in Székesfehérvár, Hungary. She was the widow of Steve Horváth who predeceased her in 2006.

Anne immigrated to the United States in 1956 during the Hungarian Revolution with her sister Erzsébet to begin a new life of freedom. Anne was initially employed as an aide at the General Hospital in Monticello, followed by house cleaning for several families in the area until she discovered her true passion of cosmetology. Upon earning a high school equivalency diploma, Anne became a well-liked and sought-after hairdresser at the Walmart SmartStyle Hair Salon in Monticello, where she eventually became the salon manager. Anne truly enjoyed getting to know the wonderful people of the community. More recently, she was working part-time at Arely’s Beauty Salon prior to her retirement at the age of 77 due to the COVID-19 closures. In addition to spending time with her family and friends, Anne also enjoyed crochet, flowers, and gardening.

She is survived by a daughter, Anna Horváth of The Center for Discovery; a son Joseph Horváth & his wife Dana of Purcellville, Va.; a granddaughter Kelsey Shevock; a sister-in-law, Anna Doncsec of Union, N.J.; many nieces and nephews including Steven Molnar of Crawfordville, Fla.; and a special friend Margaret Borbas. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her siblings Erzsébet, Jolanka, János, Rózsika, and Ilonka Fehér.

Visitation will be held on Friday, November 18 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home, 401 Broadway in Monticello. Her funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, November 19 at 10 a.m. at St. Peter’s Church, Broadway & Liberty Street in Monticello with Fr. Bob Porpora officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Bethel.

Memorial contributions can be made to The Center for Discovery, P.O. Box 840, Harris, NY 12742.
