JUPITER, FLORIDA – Michael Sweeney, who recently started working as an Assistant Golf Pro at the Villa Roma, won his first Minor League Golf Tour (MLGT) event, shooting a 65 at the Abacoa Golf Club.
Throughout the afternoon, Sweeney birdied on six different holes, 4, 6, 7, 10, 13, and 16, without recording a single bogey on the course.
Sweeney earned $1,433 for his first MLGT win, $1,200 for winning and an additional $233 from the bonus pool.
Matt Kleiner, the Director of Golf at the Villa Roma, expressed how great of an employee Sweeney has been during his tenure.
“I’ve never had a more positive assistant in 36 years on the job,” Kleiner said. “His work ethic is impeccable, both as a teacher and a golfer. He’s a great kid.”
Kleiner explained that Sweeney is going to try out for the Canadian Tour this Spring, but will most likely be back at the Villa Roma if he doesn’t qualify.
“I would love to have him back, he has been great.”
