LAKE HUNTINGTON — Sullivan West Secondary School will be seeing a familiar face in a new position starting this summer. 

David Eggleton, who formerly held the position of Athletic Director and other titles at Sullivan West for almost a decade, is returning to assume command of the middle and high schools on July 1.

Eggleton said that he is “very excited and looking forward to working in the Sullivan West Central School District,” and “working with the community, the Sullivan West staff and the administrative team.” 

“I am very happy to be able to live in the area and directly impact the community where we live. Our community is extremely supportive, kind and motivated to see positive change. We look forward to working with the community in collaboration with Sullivan West.”

Eggleton was chosen for the role following a thorough search from a pool of 23 applicants.

A variety of stakeholders provided input to the process, including administrators, school board members, teachers, parents, and professionals associated with education. 

These individuals expressed their desire for a principle who is a powerful, cooperative leader who interacts with all parties in an efficient manner, a visionary dedicated to the Sullivan West mission of educating students to be active, enthusiastic and valuable members of their communities.

Eggleton is not new to the school scene as his work experience involves serving as the Director of Physical Education, Health, Wellness and Athletics of Livingston Manor and Roscoe Central Schools. He was also the Livingston Manor Assistant Principal where he has held the position since 2022. 

Regarding his own education, SUNY Cortland awarded him a Bachelor of Science in Education, CUNY Lehman awarded him a Master of Science in Education and SUNY New Paltz awarded him a Certificate of Advanced Study in School Leadership. At Sullivan West, he also finished his administrative internship.

Eggleton stated that he is excited to focus on the areas of communication, curriculum review and collaboration and the transition of Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) from the Elementary school to the Middle/High School.

“I have worked in a variety of areas in education that have prepped and supported me in being able to take on this position,” said Eggleton. “Growth and positive experiences have allowed educational successes in the districts that I have been so lucky to be a part of.”

A meet-and-greet event for the new principal is anticipated to be held in May.

Sullivan West Superintendent Dr. Kathleen Bressler welcomed Eggleton’s return to Sullivan West saying “We are very excited to have him back in the Bulldog family.”
