Baseball, softball playoffs set

SULLIVAN COUNTY –– The playoff seeds have been announced as the Section 9 baseball and softball tournaments got underway yesterday.

On the baseball front, the No. 2 seeded Eldred Yellowjackets are slated to face No. 1 seeded Chapel Field at Lorenz Field in Saugerties on Saturday in the Class D Championship. The game will begin at 11 a.m.

The Tri-Valley Bears, who ended their season with a 12-0 win over Manor last week, earned the fifth seed in the Class C playoffs. They traveled to No. 4 seeded S.S. Seward last night. The winner of that contest will face No. 1 seeded Chester tomorrow at 4 p.m.

On the softball side of the schedule, the Eldred Lady Yellowjackets are the top seed in Class D. They’ll face No. 2 seeded Livingston Manor at Middletown High School on Saturday at 10 a.m. in the Class D title game.

Also, the Tri-Valley Lady Bears are the No. 5 seed in Class C, and traveled to No. 4 seeded Millbrook yesterday. The winner of that game faces top seeded Pine Plains at 4 p.m. tomorrow.

Liberty hosts Manor
The Indians’ boys and girls varsity track and field teams defeated the visiting Manor Wildcats last week. The Liberty boys won 80-32 and the Liberty girls won 74-23.

Softball
Carlson hits for the cycle
The Lady Wildcats split their two non-league matchups late last week, losing 7-5 against Tri-Valley on Thursday before defeating Liberty 11-7 on Friday.

Livingston Manor’s Mackenzie Carlson hit for the cycle in the win over the Lady Indians. She had a Single, Double, Triple and Home Run in four at bats, earning five RBIs during her big day at the plate. She also pitched 3.1 innings in relief, allowing just one run in that outing.
