Bonus days at the Joel Hill Sawmill

EQUINUNK, PA - The Equinunk Historical Society recently announced that the Joel Hill Water-Powered Sawmill in Lookout will be open for tours and demonstrations on Sunday, October 3 at 1:30 p.m., and also on Saturday and Sunday October 9 and 10, from10 a.m. to 1 p.m., both days.

The mill is normally only open once in October, but since earlier Mill Days in the summer were canceled due to the pandemic, the crew decided to offer these final bonus days to the community. October is a very satisfying time to visit.

There is normally a good flow of water over the falls, and the scenic location is enhanced by the fall colors. The sawmill dates back to the late 1800’s. It has operated almost continuously since that time.

The number of persons on the tours is limited to allow for safe distancing. Please contact Greg at (570) 798-2420 to secure your day and time. The programs are free. Donations are not required but always welcomed. The adjacent Cleveland Museum of industrial machinery will also be open.

The mill is reached from Creek Rd., just south of the Equinunk Fire House on Rte 191. Take Creek Rd. to its end, (a short distance), turn right and then immediately left. The sawmill is on the left. There will be signs to assist you. For more information, call (570) 224-4466.
