Braving cold for a cause

HIGHLAND –– Teams from across the Hudson Valley have raised money in the past several weeks leading up to Sunday’s 2022 Subzero Heroes event at Berean Lake in Highland.
Participants braved cold temperatures, wind and water to raise awareness and funds to combat Alzheimer’s.

This year, almost $58,000 was raised for the Hudson Valley Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association.

Two teams featured Sullivan County residents. Strike Out Alz, led by team Captain Terry Grafmuller, along with members Joseph Abraham, Susan Bunce, Lance Castillo, Marcia Fink, Theresa Grafmuller, Jaime Schmeiser and Sheila Lashinsky, came home with the second place trophy after raising $9,727.

The top fundraising team were the Ulster County Firemen, who brought in $16,170.

Also participating was the newly-formed Sullivan 180 team, led by Outreach Coordinator Lindsay Wheat. She raised $1,030.

Donations can still be made at https://act.alz.org/site/TR/ActiveEvents/NY-HudsonValleyChapter?pg=entry&fr_id=15264.
