LAKE HUNTINGTON — The Sullivan West Bulldogs (5-2) hosted Liberty on Monday afternoon and went on to win 7-3 in the early-season contest. 

Alec Hubert got the win on the mound, tossing five strong innings, giving up two runs on four hits with five walks and seven strikeouts. Haden Nicosia closed out the win for the Bulldogs with two innings, giving up one run on one hit with two walks and three strikeouts.

At the plate, Sullivan West’s Evan Ebert went 3-3 with a walk, three stolen bases, an RBI and two runs. Jacob Hubert went 3-4 with three stolen bases and an RBI.

Liberty’s David Philips pitched five innings, giving up five runs on nine hits with three walks and six strikeouts.

Baseball

Eldred visited Tri-Valley on Wednesday afternoon, and the Bears were able to defend their home field with a 9-3 victory. Nathan Closs tossed six innings for the Bears, striking out three, giving up three hits and just one earned run. At the plate, Closs went 2-4 with a triple and two RBI, Colin Monell went 1-3 with a 2-run home run, Austin Swett went 2-4 with a double and Josh Fanslau went 2-2 with a double. For Eldred, James Deyermond went 1-4 with an RBI and Dalen Espie went 1-3 with an RBI.

Liberty dropped to 2-5 on the season after a tough 26-0 loss to Beacon on Wednesday afternoon. David Philips and Austin Werlau each had a hit for the RedHawks in the loss.

Sullivan West defeated Fallsburg 20-0 last night thanks to a no-hitter by Evan Ebert. Ebert struck out 12, walked two and hit one batter in five innings. Austin Nystrom had two hits, three RBI and four runs scored, Evan Ebert added two hits, four RBI and two walks, Alec Hubert scored three runs and drove in two more, Jacob Hubert had three hits, five RBI and two runs, Adam Ernst had two hits, one RBI and a run scored, Haden Nicosia had two hits, two RBI and two runs scored. Sullivan West also received contributions from Caden Allen, who scored two runs, and Allyn Walker who had two hits, an RBI and a run scored.

Softball

Eldred and Livingston Manor met on Monday afternoon for a league contest. Eldred took care of business to the tune of a 20-1 victory over the Lady Wildcats. Rayanna Quintana led the way with four runs scored and two RBI. Sydney Furler scored twice and drove in two more. Olivia Gonzalez had two RBI on the day, along with Marissa Gochenour and Alexis Fredericks. Chloe Warming was the winning pitcher for Eldred, allowing just four hits and striking out four in the win. Livingston Manor’s Zaylee Cox had a hit and scored the lone run for Livingston Manor.

Eldred continued their hot start to the season with a win over Burke Catholic on Wednesday afternoon. The Lady Yellowjackets got the bats going in a 14-2 victory. Chloe Warming tossed a gem, giving up just three hits and one earned run in the game, as well as driving in three runs and scoring twice. Ksenia Sosnowski had two doubles, four RBI and two runs scored. Christina Schafer added three RBI, Olivia Gonzalez crushed two doubles, and Alexis Frederick and Sydney Furler each added two hits as well.

Chapel Field visited Grahamsville on Monday afternoon to take on the Lady Bears, and Tri-Valley was triumphant in a 7-6 game. Avery Carrier led the Bears going 2-3 with a single and a double. Daniella Bell and Emily Rusin each added two singles in the win. Jenna Carmody tossed a complete game for Tri-Valley, striking out 13 and allowing just one earned run in the non-league win.

Tri-Valley followed up their win over Chapel Field with a road league game against Burke on Tuesday. Tri-Valley took the game, winning 14-9 behind another strong pitching performance by Jenna Carmody. Carmody tossed a complete game, striking out 11 and keeping the Eagles scoreless through the first four innings of the game, as well as scoring four times and stealing five bases with two singles. Emily Rusin recorded a double and a single in the win, and Avery Carrier and Angelia Raykoff each had two singles.

Liberty hosted Ellenville on Tuesday afternoon, and the Blue Devils took home a 13-1 victory. Angie Wheeler, Aaliyah Williams and Elaina Ramirez each recorded hits in the loss. The RedHawks’ record dropped to 3-3 after a 15-3 loss at Sullivan West on April 25.

Sullivan West was propelled to victory over Liberty via a ten run second inning to lead to spark the 15-3 victory on Friday. Karlee Diehl went 2-4 with a triple, RBI and two runs scored. Kaitlyn Drobysh had three runs scored on two hits, and Sam Hellerer and Kearstin Knapp also added two hits apiece for the Bulldogs.

The Liberty girls took on Beacon on Wednesday afternoon and lost a tough 7-0 game to the Bulldogs. Angie Wheeler tossed six innings, allowing just two earned runs and striking out eight. With the loss, Liberty’s record dropped to 3-4. 

Monticello squared off against Cornwall on Wednesday afternoon, and the Dragons were able to get the bats going in a 22-5 victory. Monticello’s Alexandra Cushing had a double and two runs scored in the loss.

Golf

The Monticello and Livingston Manor boys were at The Monster on Tuesday to compete in a division match. Monticello’s Chase McFarland shot a 38, the low score of the day. Livingston Manor’s Gavin Thomas scored a 45 on the Par-36 course. Monticello’s record moved to 1-2 on the season and the Panthers are 1-1 in the division.

The Monticello and Livingston Manor girls also visited The Monster for a match. Livingston Manor took the win via tie breaker. Monticello’s Abby Morse shot a match-best 56, with Livingston Manor’s Anastasia Niforatos scoring a 58. Monticello’s record moved to 3-4 overall and 1-1 in the league, while Livingston Manor is 4-3 overall and 4-0 in the league.
