SULLIVAN WEST –– Burke Catholic made the trip out to Sullivan West last Tuesday in the hopes of stealing away a victory on the Bulldogs’ home field. They definitely accomplished that task with a 7-0 victory over Sullivan West.
Right from the beginning Burke was dominating the game. Their first goal happened 5 minutes into the game and from that point on the flood gates were open. They kept up the pressure and maintained ball possession until they were able to score again a few minutes later to make it 2-0.
Each time the Bulldogs put an offensive push together a Burke player would shoot in at just the right moment to cut off Sullivan West’s momentum. It seemed like Sullivan West couldn’t hold onto the ball for more than a minute at a time. Burke scored once more before the end of the first half to make it 3-0 going into halftime. Burke certainly kept up the same intense pace from the first half but Sullivan West was able to apply some pressure of their own. The Bulldogs were able to get some key defensive stops and even got within goal range multiple times but couldn’t seem to find the net.
Unfortunately for Sullivan West their momentum started to dissipate around 15 minutes into the second half when Burke’s forward player was able to split through multiple Bulldog defenders for a 1v1 against the Sullivan West goalie. With the score being 4-0 this was the beginning of the end for Sullivan West. Burke scored twice more within the next 10 minutes, making the score 6-0 with 20 minutes on the clock.
Sullivan West played extremely hard all the way until the end but it wasn’t enough to overcome such a large lead. Burke ended the game with a final deep goal to finish 7-0 over Sullivan West. The Bulldogs’ coach declined to comment but they are certainly looking forward to finishing out the season strong.
