CALLICOON CENTER – The Catskill Outdoorsman hosted their First Annual 3D Archery Fundraiser at Halloran Farms in Callicoon Center on Saturday, May 7, in order to raise awareness and funds to support runner Kelly Irving in her MS Run the US relay.

Catskill Outdoorsman’s owner Ryan Terracciano and his team set up a total of 32 3D archery targets at which participants could have their ticket stamped and send arrows down range alongside fellow local archers.

Vendors from around Sullivan County set up booths in support of the cause, with live music from “DJ Spin” Stephen Burney.

According to Terracciano, the event yielded over 40 registered shooters, with the total money to be donated  to MS Run the US reaching $3,579.35.

MS Run the US is an organization that is dedicated to raising awareness and funds to support Multiple Sclerosis (MS) research, while also aiding those living with disability due to MS. In following this goal, MS Run the US has partnered with 19 runners who each run a section of the evenly divided 3,260 miles that stretch across the nation.

According to the MS Run the US website, Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a chronic and often disabling disease that attacks the central nervous system (CNS), which is made up of the brain, spinal cord, and optic nerves.

Symptoms may be mild, such as numbness in the limbs, or severe, such as paralysis or loss of vision. The progress, severity and specific symptoms of MS are unpredictable and vary from one person to another.

Runner and MS survivor Kelly Irving plans to run the full 163 miles from Vernal, Utah to Steamboat Springs, Colorado from May 16 to the 21, as the sixth segment runner of the ultra relay race. Irving was diagnosed with MS in September of 2020, and said she wants to use her mobility to raise awareness and funds while she still has the ability to do so.

“It definitely changed my perspective after getting diagnosed and really being thankful for everything,” Irving said.

“I hope to inspire others living with MS and those facing other challenges to keep going, keep pushing when things get tough and to do what they can when they can,” Irving said.

Irving is an experienced runner, and has been keeping up with the sport throughout her young adulthood for the past 15 years. This will be her tenth marathon with her most recent being the 2022 Pittsburgh Marathon. She currently works at the Center for Discovery in Sullivan County as an occupational therapist.

“I can’t even say thank you enough. When he [Terracciano] first called me to tell me about it… I was just so overwhelmed that somebody was putting this much effort into helping with the cause and my goal,” Irving said in gratitude to the Catskill Outdoorsman.

For the ultra relay, the first runner began in April in Santa Monica, CA, and the final runner is set to finish the relay in August in NYC.
