CFFCM welcomes new Executive Director

LIVINGSTON MANOR – The Catskill Fly Fishing Center and Museum (CFFCM) announced their new Executive Director, Alexandra Abate, who began working for the museum on July 18.

Abate has more than 15 years of experience working with nonprofits, and her most recent role prior to CFFCM was the Queens County Farm Museum, where she served as the Director of Education.

“Getting started I am going to be learning a lot and envisioning new ideas for educational programs and ways that the site can be utilized,” Abate said.

Abate explained, “I wanted to be in a more outdoorsy place. A friend mentioned CFFCM and I looked into it, and it tied into my most recent work and overall goals so I applied.”

Abate is somewhat familiar with western Sullivan County, despite growing up in New England and Connecticut. “During the summers when I was in college I used to visit, and in recent years I’ve visited a lot more.”

The process of finding a new Executive Director for CFFCM was not an easy one, with many qualified applicants vying for the position. A search committee was formed, and the four members of the board were in charge of finding the candidate that would align best with the museum.

“There is an incredible array of experience on the board and the staff, and they took the search process very seriously,” explained Board President Anthony Magardino.

Prior to her work with nonprofits, Abate pursued a Master’s degree in social work, and has deployed the skills she has learned from her education and experience in the field to influence successful outcomes in various settings.

When deciding what she wanted to do, Abate knew that she was deeply passionate about helping people and being outdoors.

“Being outdoors is so important to me, and being able to mix that with work is very nice. It’s deeply woven into the work that I do.”
