Charles A. Bryan, loving husband, father, grandfather and friend, passed away after a short illness on April 12, 2020 at his winter home in Vero Beach, Florida, surrounded by his family. He was 89 years old.
A lifelong resident of Sullivan County, NY, Charlie was born on January 4, 1931 to Charles M. and Katherine Morris Bryan in Rock Hill, NY. He was a graduate of Fallsburg Central High School and went on to a 30-plus year career at various Sullivan County banks. He retired as Senior Vice President of the former Ellenville National Bank in Ellenville, NY, and spent his early retirement years traveling the world with his wife and playing golf (not very well, he always said).
Charlie married Shirley Lupton in 1956, celebrating 62 years together in 2018. In Shirley’s later years, Charlie lovingly took on the role of her primary caretaker, doting on her until the end. He was a former member of the Fallsburg First Aid Squad, the Fallsburg Lions Club and VFW Post 6294. He was predeceased by Shirley in 2019 (almost one year to the day prior to Charlie’s passing), their son, Edward, in 1979, his brother, John Bryan, and his sister, Elizabeth Cauthers.
Charlie, or Chas as Shirley affectionately called him, is survived by his two daughters, Lisa of Tarrytown, NY and Kathleen of Cornwall, NY. Charlie is also survived by his grandchildren, Kellie and Andrew, sister-in-law, Marie Bryan of Wurtsboro, NY, and several nieces and nephews. Charlie’s family, along with all who knew him, regarded him as a true gentleman, a man of class, intelligence, and integrity, which will be carried on via his legacy. He instilled strong values and morals in his loved ones and they will continue to make both Charlie and Shirley proud each day.
Family and friends of Charles A. Bryan are invited to attend a memorial service on Saturday, October 30, 2021 at 11:00am at the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home at 401 Broadway, Monticello, with interment to follow at Rock Ridge cemetery in Monticello. At the family’s request, masks are required for the entirety of the funeral services.
Donations may be made in his name to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund (jdrf.org) at 26 Broadway, 14th Floor, New York, NY 10004 or to VNA Hospice Foundation of Indian River County (vnatc.com) at 1110 35th Lane, Vero Beach, FL 32960.
