Claws compete at Walnut Mountain

LIBERTY –The Catskill Claws had their second event on May 7 at Walnut Mountain in Liberty. The “home” course for the Catskill Claws always draws a great crowd and brings people to Sullivan County.

The Middle school course runs a bit long, about three miles with 250 feet of elevation change per lap. The high school course adds an additional mile and a half, for a 4.5 mile total and 400 feet of ascending per lap.

Noah Starkey led the middle school team on Sunday with a fastest lap time of 20:58 and a total time of 1:18:34 after three laps. He finished 16th in the 8th grade boys class.

Aiden Dusenbury-Dalto finished 18th and had a fastest lap time of 24:14 and a total time of 1:40:50 after three laps.

Braedan Clarke and Tyler Stevenson both earned 434 points for the high school team. They each finished in the top-10 of their respective classes.

Clarke’s fastest lap time was 26:36 and he brought a total time of 2:01:52 after four laps on the 4.5 mile loop.

Stevenson’s fastest lap clocked in at 27:25 and his overall time after three laps was 1:27:48.

Jackson Krause earned 408 points for the Claws, finishing 13th in the sophomore boys class. His fastest lap was 27:45.

The Claws are entering their third event ranged 14th in the state league.

“Everyone had a fantastic time this past weekend,” Keith Stephenson said after the event. “We couldn’t have asked for better weather, and the crowd of spectators were very supportive of all the athletes from teams across the state. Overall it was just a great event.”

The Claws are headed up to Vernon, NY this weekend for their third league event of the season on May 21.
