FALLSBURG – Fallsburg earned the No. 3 seed for the Section 9 Class B playoffs this year for boys soccer after posting a 10-2-3 record in the regular season and a 5-1 division record. Spackenkill, ranked No. 7 in the bracket traveled to Fallsburg Tuesday afternoon for a Sectional matchup. Despite a valiant effort from the Comets, they ultimately fell 3-0 against the Spartans and were eliminated from playoff contention.

After nearly an entire first half of scoreless soccer, Spackenkill found an opening and capitalized. The Spartans entered the break with a 1-0 lead.

Early in the second half, the Spartans found the back of the net again, and the 2-0 lead put Fallsburg into a hole that they would be unable to escape. The Comets had plenty of chances to score, a few corners that fell a bit short and a few shots that sailed over the net could have set up a much different game.

“I think that if we would have scored the first goal of the game, we could have won,” Fallsburg Coach Dylan Gaucher said. “We had our heads down a bit after we gave up the first goal just before the half, and the second goal made it much tougher for us.”

Despite their inability to score in the game, Fallsburg still played a solid game against the 8th ranked team in the state, though they were unfortunately unable to advance to the next round.

Similarly, the Liberty boys soccer team lost 3-0 on Tuesday as well. They visited Our Lady of Lourdes for their Sectional matchup and were unable to take down the home team.
