County still leading private sector growth

SULLIVAN COUNTY –– According to preliminary data released by the New York State Department of Labor (NYSDOL) for October 2022, Sullivan County’s private employment sector grew the fastest year-over-year, up 7.3 percent. Allegany County was second in the state at 6.6 percent.

The County boasted 1,000 new jobs in the leisure and hospitality sector since last October.

Regionally, for the 12-month period, the private sector job count in the Hudson Valley rose by 32,300, or 4.2 percent, to 799,700.  

According to the NYSDOL, job growth in the region’s private employment sector continued to be broad-based with seven of nine sectors adding jobs for the 12 months through October 2022.  Two sectors posted year-over-year job gains of more than 9 percent.  The region’s natural resources, mining, and construction sector grew the fastest, year-over-year, up 9.3 percent – fastest October growth since 1999. 

As far as unemployment rate, the NYSDOL reports Sullivan County’s is 2.4 percent. Rockland County has the lowest unemployment rate in the region at 2.1 percent.
