LIBERTY- A Liberty couple have been arrested for their involvement in the death of their 16-month-old daughter.
The Village of Liberty Police, along with Emergency Medical Services, responded to a 911 call for a child in cardiac arrest at the Knights Inn Motel on State Route 52 in Liberty at approximately 7:30 on the night of May 2.
The Liberty police department arrested Lisa Keitt, 26, and 41-year-old Jimmie Luvert after responding officers found a 16-month-old female child unconscious and unresponsive in the lobby of the motel.
According to the report, authorities attempted to perform life-saving measures and transported the child via ambulance to Garnet Medical Center, who was later pronounced deceased at the hospital.
The Village of Liberty Police Department, in tandem with the New York State Police and the Sullivan County District Attorney’s Office, have begun an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the child’s death.
Both Keitt and Luvert are being charged with criminally negligent homicide and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child.
Luvert has been remanded to the Sullivan County Jail without bail, as he is a repeat offender. Keitt has been remanded in lieu of $500,000 cash bail, $1,000,000 secured bond or $2,000,000 partially secured bond.
Officials have not yet released the child’s cause of death.
